Group to Seek Ballot Initiative to Block Columbus Expansion
The same group that successfully fought the Morse-Bethel Connector ballot initiative two years ago is vowing to put another initiative on the Columbus ballot that would block that city's expansion into the Darby watershed for the next five years.
The group, Progress with Economic & Environmental Responsibility, or PEER, is a grassroots movement to "improve the quality of life in Central Ohio through the use of ballot initiatives and referenda." DCA trustee Paul Dumouchelle is the group's president.
PEER cites a lack of planning and continued degradation in Hellbranch Run as reasons for the proposed referendum, which if passed by Columbus voters would forbid the city from extending sewer and water services into the watershed for five years.
If the group succeeds in getting enough signatures, the initiative would appear on the Columbus ballot this November. DCA will be discussing this initiative at its April trustee meeting.
