FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 7/29/99
City Council of Columbus Unanimously Endorses and Supports Creation of Darby
Prairie National Wildlife Refuge
Action Comes at Request of Darby Creek Association
On Monday, July 26, the City Council of the City of Columbus unanimously passed a
resolution of expression endorsing and supporting the establishment of the Darby Prairie
National Wildlife Refuge. The resolution in its entirety is attached, along with the
bottom portion of the actual resolution, which contains the names of the council members
(the actual resolution is on legal size paper so we are not faxing the entire original).
The resolution is significant for these reasons:
- It represents the unanimous sentiment of Columbus City Council, the legislative body
elected to govern the largest city in Ohio.
- It underscores the reasons all citizens of Central Ohio should support the wildlife
refuge.
- In combination with the groups representing almost 50,000 Ohioans who have already
expressed support for the wildlife refuge (see DCA Press Release dated
6/21/99 on our website - www.darbycreeks.org) it demonstrates the wildlife refuge has
the widespread support throughout Ohio.
- It shows the increasing effectiveness of Darby Creek Associations
Darby Prairie National Wildlife Refuge Public Support Task Force.
The action by Columbus City Council was the result of an initiative by DCA President
Steve Borror and DCA Trustee Terry Stewart, both residents of Columbus west side.
